Cape Town International Guitar Festival

Founded: Avril Kinsey founded the The Avril Kinsey Classical Guitar Competition in 1998 and the Cape Town International Guitar Festival in 2010. Subsequent events have also been held online.

Mission:  To promote, develop and sustain the art of the classical guitar in all its forms.

We are: A 3-day edu-music guitar festival and conference, which hosts the Avril Kinsey Classical Guitar Competition and Composer’s Competition, as well as a variety of formal and informal concerts, master classes, workshops, talks and exhibits. Hosted in 2011 by Friends of CTAM (NPO#077942) the event was held at Groot Constantia and was an enormous success with over 60 entrants in the competition from Africa, Europe and The Far East and full houses to most of the events over the 3 days.

Sponsorship: ZAR 85,000. and in-kind sponsorship was fund-raised by Avril Kinsey who was also the Artistic Director of the event. Avril was assisted by Ann Coltham and students from the Cape Town Academy of Music See all our sponsors.
